Joltin’ Joe!

…No, not DiMaggio!

As fate would have it, I just so happened to be perusing through some back issues of Ms. Marvel, many of which were inked by Joe Sinnott, when I heard the news that he would be retiring. Now I’m pretty sure he retired from full-time work at Marvel a good number of years back, but continued doing work inking the Spider-Man daily newspaper strip (which is now ending after 42 years in the wake of the passing of Stan Lee). So I guess he’s hanging up the pen for good now.

I met Joe at that Stan Lee Party back in 2012 and he was one of the most approachable and generous men you’ll ever find. I noticed he was wearing this Spider-Man watch, a gift from Marvel, which surprised me, as I figured any gift from Marvel would have been Fantastic Four related. He inked that book forever, starting with Kirby and continuing long afterward. He was going to explain it to me, but our conversation was interrupted by the MC and I never got to hear it. Now I’m guessing his tenure on the Spider-Man daily was the reason for it.

In any case, I’d like to wish the man a happy retirement. Anyone who wants to express similar wishes to Joe directly may do so at:

Again, best wishes to Joe and his family.
