Flash-Pointless

Remember when I said I was giving the TV Flash another shot? Well…

It was just revealed that they’re adapting the “Flashpoint” storyline.

Again.

I say “again” because, as I outlined over a year ago, season one was already an adaptation of this storyline. As I recapped the original comics storyline at the time:

The Reverse Flash goes back in time to kill the Flash and fails and winds up killing Flash’s mother instead. Flash goes back in time to prevent his mom’s murder and this somehow causes a world disaster in the future. So the Flash has to go back in time again and prevent himself from saving his mother in order to save the world.

This is what season one did, only they skipped over the alternate, “end of the world” reality Flash created by saving his mother and had him instead decide not to save her at all in the first place.

So now what?

Are they going to show us a messed up timeline that shakes all reality and thus forces the Flash to go back in time AGAIN and let her die AGAIN? Wouldn’t this be a colossal waste of narrative time? Talk about your been-there-done-that, we have already literally been there and done that. With just one season of shitty Earth-2 garbage inbetween.

The one ray of (likely false) hope is Grant Gustin’s assertion that “We’re definitely doing this [Flashpoint] thing our own way… I’ve read [the comic], I’ve seen the amazing animated film. This will be its own thing.”

If their “own thing” ends up being precisely what I was hoping last month, great. Otherwise I’m done.
